A bit about us

Sticky Boy Donuts are a British company, making American Donuts for British people, in Britain.

Let’s face it, the British are good at many things, but when it comes to the humble Donut, the good old US of A has us licked.

Though we may have been instrumental in their evolution, and even coined the name “Dough Nut”, it’s on America’s shores where the sweet doughy pillows of perfection were championed and turned from sweet treat to national treasure.

In the land of hope and glory, there is a donut shape, style and flavour for every taste and occasion. They have been adopted as America’s staple, for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and range from the simply sweet, to the downright crazy.

From simple vanilla glazed, apple fritters and bear claws, to a replacement for buns in a bacon double cheeseburger, the donut has shown its enduring appeal, as well as it’s versatility.

It is this endless stream of sweet possibilities, embraced overseas, that we have made it our mission to introduce to the Great British public.

Our donuts are different

You’ll find no holes in our nuts.

The Americans call them ‘Long Johns’. All the delicious attributes of a soft, chewy, golden fried donut, but in a long, hot dog style shape. This doughy masterpiece has several benefits over it’s bagel shaped sibling.

Firstly, they are easier to hold, and to eat.

This more ergonomic offering, also makes them easier to dunk in your coffee, so far so good.

And, being long, means we can fill our donuts from end to end, meaning every bite is packed with filling and flavour.

It’s for these reasons that we adopted this shape for all of our donuts.

As an added bonus, it means we can fit more donut into each box, with no annoying empty spaces where a hole would usually be. This reduces waste from our recycled packaging, and sadness from our customers who needed that extra bite.

All of our donuts are made fresh, daily. Carefully crafted from a vanilla infused dough, gently fried to golden perfection, generously filled with the finest quality fillings, and finished with our signature glazes and toppings. We use no artificial flavours or colourings in our donuts either. Everything that makes our donuts great, comes directly from mother nature!

We like our Sugar with Coffee and Cream!

Burger and fries, cheese and crackers, fish and chips, nothing quite goes together as well as Coffee and Donuts. Just ask any Cop in America.

We started with a simple American philosophy, our coffee came ‘Hot, Black and from a jug”. It’s how the yanks have done it for decades, but it turns out Europeans are as serious about their coffee as Americans are about their donuts, so we had to adopt a slightly more inviting approach when it came to our liquid motivator.

After considerable investment, and a lot of staff training, we launched a full range of delicious coffees to accompany our showstopper donuts.

We use only the finest roasted coffee beans from the people who do it best, the Welsh.

Ok, so maybe the Welsh aren’t synonymous with coffee production, but these guys are pretty darn good at it. Founded by an Italian, and remaining true to Italian recipes and methods for over 90 years, they, like us, brought flavours to UK shores never seen before, and so we naturally feel an affinity for these coffee roasting pioneers.

Ethically sourced, beautifully roasted, and freshly ground in store for every cup. It is quite literally the Ferrari of coffee.

Whether its a Flat White, Cappuccino, or a Mocha Choca Latte Yaya, we got you covered.

If there is a coffee not listed on our menu, that you want to try out for the first time, need to start your day, or simply get to the end of it, we’ll be thrilled to put out barista skills to the test, and knock you one up.

Did you know? A Donut History,

Records suggest that the Donut originated in Ancient Rome, with the first recorded recipe coming courtesy of Cato the Elder, a Roman Senator, Soldier and Historian, (and presumably baked goods enthusiast), who scribbled down directions in his essay ‘De Agri Cultura’ on how to deep fry dough, using cheese, honey and poppy seeds referred to as “Globi”. (Yes, the name needed some work)

Over the next twenty or so centuries, the practice of deep frying dough thankfully spread outward across the globe, popping up in various cookbooks and historical records from Rome to Rwanda,

It’s fair to say every culture has had a go, at some point, with varying degrees of success.

The Cookbook ‘Kuchenmeisterei’, published by Nuremberg in 1485, has a recipe for “Gefullte Krapfen”, (Not much better than Globi), a stuffed, fried dough cake.

The Dutch embraced the idea with ‘Olykoek’ or “Oily Cake”, a sweet cake dough, fried in hogs fat.

And in 1750, a recipe for fried dough “nuts” was published here in the UK, under the title “How to make Hertfordshire Cakes, Nuts and Pincushions”, in The Country Housewife’s Family Companion by William Ellis. (The first recorded use of term Dough ‘Nut’)

Between 1750 and present day, there really hasn’t been much in the way of progress made on these indulgent little balls of deliciousness on these shores, but across the pond it’s a very different story.

It’s thanks to our Dutch friends, and their Olykoek’s that America became the donut utopia that it is today. Dutch settlers introduced the concept to the United States during the 18th Century, and man, did the Yankees run with it!

From the humble Olykoek, American bakeries from coast to coast have given us an endless stream of delectable dough creations from Bavarian Creams and Vanilla Cruellers, to Maple Logs and Bear Claws. They are arguably more American than ‘Apple Pie’ and perhaps the true reflection of the American dream.
